Acupuncture is a branch of Chinese medicine that focuses on balancing chi (energy force). The traditional view regarding benefits of acupuncture was established by Chinese medicine. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION About Acupuncture

Initially we need to decide which areas we want to target. This is done using four diagnostic methods: inspection, auscultation, palpation / percussion, and inquiry. Essentially, by examining the condition of your face and tongue, listening to breathing sounds, feeling for tender points, and understanding your everyday life, we can determine how to use the treatment most effectively.

Extremely thin needles will then be gently inserted at the established target areas to induce energy flow. Each target area relates to certain health problems and body functions.

How Does Acupuncture Work:

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine that works by targeting certain points of the body. The acupuncture practitioner will insert thin needles into the skin, which encourages blood flow, improves neuron pathways and can help boost the body’s natural ability to repair itself. It is a constantly evolving topic, as more evidence for why it works is continually discovered.

How Many Treatments Will I Need:

Depending on the condition being treated and the effectiveness of each treatment, the total number can vary. Some people get monthly treatments, while others receive them several times per week. Different areas can be targeted as treatments progress. Each condition and individual being treated will have a customized treatment. Set up an appointment with us so we can discuss your treatment and determine the best course of action.

What Happens During an Acupuncture Treatment:

The acupuncturist examines each patient during their appointment to determine which areas are reactive and thus most effective for use. Disposable, sterile needles about a hair thin are then inserted into various areas, ranging in depth. In some instances we use an electrical current to provide additional stimulation to the area being treated.

What Conditions Can Acupuncture Treat:

Acupuncture is best known for treating chronic pain. It has proven effective for those suffering from headaches, menstrual cramps, back pain, neck pain, muscle pains or strains and pain associated with osteoarthritis. It can also boost the immune system. There are many different pains that can be alleviated with the practice of acupuncture.

What Should I Do Before a Treatment:

Patients are advised to wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing to the treatment. Depending on the target area, you may be asked to partially disrobe, and remove shoes and socks. Some patients are very tired or groggy after the initial treatment, so first timers might want to make arrangements for a safe ride home. If you have any questions in advance of a treatment, don’t hesitate to contact us so we can offer you a full understanding of what to expect.

How Will I Feel After a Treatment:

An acupuncture treatment has a relaxing effect, which is why you shouldn’t drive following the appointment. Even though you may be feeling great as a result of your appointment, don’t overextend yourself in the days following treatment to let your body fully recover. Other than that, you should be able to enjoy usual activities and continue on any medicine regimen you may be following.
