Your back faces a lot of daily stress and keeping it fit and healthy should be an important part of your routine. Taking frequent breaks: With many people working in offices with jobs that require long hours in front of the computer, it is important to keep an eye on the clock and make sure you get up to stretch your legs every half hour. Taking a two minute break is healthy for both mind and body.

Correct Seated Posture: If your chair or workstation is not adaptable to your height, you may have a problem. Everyone is built differently and this is why adjusting your seat or desktop to suit your comfort is important. You do this job day in and day out and with the wrong position, you could end up slouching. Always make sure that your feet are firmly on the ground or on a footrest to give your back support and that your thighs are either at right angles or sloping down from your body.

Lifting Objects Correctly: Whether you work at the supermarket or at a construction site, knowing the correct way to lift heavy objects is a great way to avoid suffering from back injuries later. Be in a stable position, keep your back straight and keep objects closer to the body to balance the load. Of course, do try to avoid heavy objects that could possibly damage your body. Also, avoid twisting your body or turning while lifting your load.

Stay Active: Being active is one of the best treatments for you in terms of general health and your body’s wellbeing. Exercising helps in strengthening, repairing and stretching your back muscles. It may be tempting to sleep more and put off working out for another day, but weak back muscles will be unable to support the back properly.

Eating a Healthy Diet: It also comes down to the food we eat. Factors like age and weight play a huge role in our overall health and we can’t control our age, but keeping our weight in a healthy range can work wonders for minimizing back stress. You need calcium, Vitamin D and other nutrients to keep your bones from becoming brittle which could lead to back pain.

Avoid Smoking: When you smoke, the blood flow to your lower spine is reduced, which can contribute a lot of problems as well as slowing down the healing process for back injuries.

Be aware of your body: Listen to what your body is telling you.
