Chiropractic Treatment Techniques

Do you have back or neck pain? Do you have heart disease and have tried everything to reverse the effects? Are you interested in the benefits of chiropractic? If you answered yes to any of those questions, visiting your nearest chiropractor is for you! Chiropractic care is recognized as one of the most popular and safe treatments for pain on the market. Studies have also shown that chiropractic care can reduce the effects of heart disease, lung disease, and even limit the risk of stroke. Despite the effectiveness of chiropractic care, it has always had red flags surrounding it. Whether it is for the safety or effectiveness of treatment, chiropractic will always have its doubters. However, chiropractic care wouldn’t be the most trusted source of pain relief if it wasn’t effective.

Chiropractic care uses several treatment techniques to conquer pain but here are 5 of the most popular techniques:

Gonstead technique:

Gonstead chiropractic technique

This hands-on technique often involves adjusting the lower back or pelvis as the patient lies on his or her side. Chiropractors use this technique to realign joints, relieve pain, reduce stiffness, and increase mobility. This adjustment technique is essentially universal in chiropractic education and every chiropractic student learns it early in the learning process. The Gonstead concept begins with a basic biomechanical principle of physics. Every engineer, architect, builder, and carpenter understands the importance of a proper foundation. The body is no different. The body’s foundation is formed by the pelvic girdle. When this structure, consisting of hipbones and lower backbones is stable, the body is stable. However, when it becomes tilted or rotated out of position, drastic body changes are inevitable.

Activator technique:

This technique involves a handheld adjusting instrument that delivers a gentle impulse to the vertebral segments of the spine or extremities. The force resembles a light thumping sensation and is used to treat everything from lower back pain to certain types of headaches, like migraines.

Flexion distraction technique:

Also known as Cox Technic or decompression manipulation, this technique is also used by our chiropractic clinic in Surrey. It is often the method of choice when treating disc herniations, facet joint pain, scoliosis, and other conditions.

Thompson technique:

Also known as drop table technique, this technique involves a specially adapted table with padded platforms, designed to drop a fraction of an inch when the chiropractor applies a quick thrust to make an adjustment. The small dropping motion is felt as vibration.

Diversified technique:

This technique is similar to the Gonstead technique. It is used to adjust the spine and extremities. It is considered the most widely used technique. It consists of very precise, hands-on thrusts with the goal of restoring and maintaining proper movement and alignment of the spine.

Regardless of the technique your chiropractor uses, you are almost guaranteed to reduce your pain, increase your body’s function, and maybe even protect your body from potential health risks. Consult your nearest chiropractor to find out what they may be able to do for you!
