How Can Chiropractic Help Me

Chiropractic is principally concerned with the alignment of the spine. Because of all the stresses and tensions of modern living, incorrect alignment of the spinal column can occur. The spinal column houses the body’s nervous system, and as such is vital in maintaining general health and wellbeing.

The spinal column carries vital information from the brain to the body and from the body to the brain. If the flow of information is impeded due to stresses on the spinal column, this can affect your overall health and affect the body’s immune system. The main benefit of chiropractic care is that it is a natural healing method, and is drug and surgery free.

Some of the main areas that can benefit from chiropractic care are:-

upper back pain

Back and Neck Pain: In a study undertaken in the United Kingdom in 2003, patients with neck and lower back pain were divided into three groups, and each group was subjected to different treatments. One group was given physiotherapy, another chiropractic care and the third was treated by a general medical practitioner. It was discovered that the patients receiving chiropractic care responded far quicker to the treatment and that the cost of chiropractic care was, on average, a third less than the other two treatments.

Headaches and Ear Infections: Numerous peer-reviewed studies have shown that regular chiropractic care can significantly reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches. 22% of people treated reported a 90% reduction in the frequency of headaches and 49% saw a reduction in the intensity of the headache. Similar studies have also shown that children that receive chiropractic care are less susceptible to ear infections and colic.

Neurological Conditions: A study using an MRI is underway at present, and initial findings indicate that upper cervical adjustments affect various brain functions. It has been shown that there is increased spinal fluid and blood flow after a series of chiropractic treatments.

Blood Pressure: A study conducted in 2007 found that one chiropractic adjustment had the same effect as two blood pressure lowering drugs. Similar studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments went a long way to stabilising the blood pressure of hypotensive patients.

Enhanced Athletic Performance: Anecdotal evidence from leading sports stars, using regular chiropractic care, indicate that these chiropractic adjustments reduce inflammation, enhance blood flow, boosts the immune system, relieves muscle tension and increases energy.

Frozen Shoulder: In another study, comprising of 50 patients, to examine the effects of chiropractic treatment on a debilitating condition called frozen shoulder. It was found that 16 healed completely, 25 showed a 75% to 90% improvement, 8 showed a more moderate improvement and only one showed an improvement of 0 to 50%.

Surgery Prevention: As a non-invasive technique, chiropractic treatment is a very viable alternative to surgery. In fact, The Journal of the American Medical Association has recommended in a recent publication, that patients suffering from lower back pain, first resort to chiropractic treatments to relieve the symptoms, before considering back surgery.

There is no doubt that chiropractic care carries many benefits that are not only non-invasive but also very cost effective, when compared to conventional treatments, like back surgery or intensive medication.
